Maria Teresa Riqué,
General Director, Opera de Tijuana
General Director of the Tijuana Opera, a nonprofit organization she founded together with the internationally renowned tenor José Medina, which develops a series of projects throughout the year, with the Opera in the Street Festival—since 2004—being one of the most important due to its scale.

From December 2007 to December 2010, she was in charge of directing the Municipal Institute of Arts and Culture of Tijuana. From 1990 to 1999, she worked for the Baja California Orchestra, an institution she collaborated with since its foundation, where she held the positions of General Coordinator, Conservatory Director, and Development Director. In 1999, she created ACORDE, an independent cultural organization dedicated to promoting the performing arts in its various disciplines. ACORDE was a pioneer in the cultural promotion of interdisciplinary projects that gave life to various forums with local, national, and international artists.

A graduate of the Escuela Normal Superior of Mexico, she also studied voice, cello, and music theory with teachers from Tijuana, San Diego, CA, and Mexico City. In addition to her teaching work, she has been involved in cultural projects since 1982. Since then, her interests have led her to take courses, seminars, and workshops in orchestra management, cultural promotion, and fundraising.

To date, she has produced 18 large-format operas, 3 galas, and 3 medium-format operas; 21 editions of the Opera in the Street Festival, 4 children’s operas, 9 interdisciplinary performances, and several special projects including the creation of a Wind Orchestra and the revival of a String Orchestra in the Eastern Zone of Tijuana.
She has received numerous accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Tijuana.
