Our Story

PANCHO RABBIT AND THE COYOTE IS A DREAM COMING TRUE!

From the founding of  Bodhi Tree Concerts and even before, we had a dream to commission a new work that was meant for our place in the world. Our goal - for audiences, and children in particular, to see themselves represented in a beautiful new work in a genre that historically leaves out so many. We also felt it important that we foster enlightenment, community, and common humanity through world class storytelling and music. Already fans of our local, legendary composer, we reached out to Anthony Davis in 2017, and were absolutely thrilled when he said YES!

As the world grew more complicated and the rhetoric around the southern border grew more dangerous, politicized, and false, we landed on the beautiful children's book PANCHO RABBIT AND THE COYOTE by award-winning Mexican American author/illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh.  We knew that Anthony's lifetime of musical works about important, socially conscious stories, lifting up groups of people and individuals who have been falsely accused (Central Park Five), misunderstood or misjudged (X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X), underrepresented: Native American (Wakanda's Dream) and many more. Sharing this project with his longtime writing partner, American playwright Allan Havis, Bodhi Tree Concerts has landed an amazing local duo to create this beautiful new work.

They create genius work, decades ahead of their time. How extraordinarily lucky we are to have Anthony Davis and Allan Havis in San Diego.

Be a part of San Diego history and help us bring PANCHO RABBIT AND THE COYOTE to the stage for the very first time - before it heads off across the country and no doubt across the globe!
