Laura Fuentes, Spanish Text (she/her)
Laura Fuentes is a Maryland-based librettist, playwright, and mother of two. Her works for the
operatic stage have been commissioned and performed by the Washington National Opera’s American Opera Initiative, The Glimmerglass Festival, Peabody Opera Theatre, Boston Opera Collaborative, Art Song Colorado/Sohap Ensemble, College Light Opera Company, and Victorian Lyric Opera Company, among others. Her libretti have been described as “brilliantly funny” (The Cape Cod Times) “witty” (The Wall Street Journal), and “familiar, universal, inevitable” (DC Metro Theatre Arts). Laura’s short opera Las Auténticas (Ben Morris, composer), premiered in 2021 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and has since been presented by New Opera West in Los Angeles, and One Ounce Opera in Austin (early 2025). Her adaptation of Humperdinck’s Hansel and GreteI (Nicholas Hersh, arranger) has been performed extensively for young audiences by Peabody Opera and Annapolis Opera, and will be presented by the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra in 2025.
Laura is a former Senior Educational Theatre Specialist for Kaiser Permanente, where
she was involved in all aspects of producing and performing original educational theatre content for young audiences. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Towson University, and a Master of Arts in Communication from Johns Hopkins University. By day, she is Senior Director of Foundation Relations and Corporate Philanthropy for UCLA.
