Mariana Flores Bucio, PANCHO RABBIT (she/her)

Mariana Flores is a Mexican singer and actress specializing in Contemporary Music and Mexican Vernacular Music, with a strong interest in opera, vocal ensemble, and chamber music. 

 

She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Susan Narucki, Steven Schick, Wilfrido Terrazas, and Carmina Escobar, and with artistic groups including the American Modern Opera Company, Orquesta de Baja California, Pendulo Cero and Project [Blank]. Her musical journey has taken her to masterclasses, workshops and festivals across Mexico, the USA, Peru, Costa Rica, Hungary, Germany, and Austria, working with distinguished artists like Meredith Monk, Lourdes Ambriz, George Lewis and Beat Furrer.

 

Mariana has performed leading roles in classical and contemporary operas, premiered several new works, and appeared on major stages such as the Lincoln Center in NYC, and Mexico City’s Zócalo Capitalino, broadcast nationally. She has also acted in contemporary theatre productions and produced her acclaimed Vernacular Music show, Morena del Alma.

 

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Music from the Autonomous University of Baja California, a MFA and a DMA in Music Performance from UC San Diego. Currently, she is co-director of the vocal ensemble Radical Ensamble in Tijuana and is developing her most recent project Mexperimental Music: Reimagining Roots, Identity and Singing.
